Mohawk Football Parent's Group
The group is made up of entirely of the parents of the Mohawk football players. The group started last year (1997) and has been a huge success. The coaches approached the parents to help the team for the upcoming season.
The purpose of the group is to assist the coaches with the management of the team and to attempt to obtain funding for equipment and other items. Also, we are trying to promote team support by the parents. The organization has no elected officers and volunteers undertake all projects. The intent of the group is not to do it for the players but to organize it for the players so they can do it themselves.
Our goals this year were to raise enough money for uniforms and to be able to pay for the Elkwater excursion. These goals have been obtained and we have raised approximately $6,000 to pay for these items. Also, we are going to organize the wind-up party for the current players, the grade 9 players, and all parents.
Our goals for next year are to raise funds for another Elkwater weekend, to allow for additional travel for other games, and to purchase any further equipment that is required by the team. Our fundraising projects for this year are as follows.... We organized a lift-a-thon where the players got pledges and tried to bench press as much as they could. This event raised $1,200. Another project were greenhouse clean ups. This project raised $1,950. We also got the players to clean up the Box Springs Rodeo grounds for $1,000. The parents ran a concession during Football Fiesta that raised $675. Concessions and fifty-fifty draws during every game the Mohawks played in raised approximately $1,200. We supplied the coaches with volunteers for the Elkwater excursion and we all had a good time. Unfortunately, we may not be able to run a concession next season because of the new playing facility. We hope that we can accomplish all of our goals for next year and for the future.
